For generations, we all have had a dream. To have a home of our own.
A place where our nomadic heart would feel “at home”.
We had this moment four years ago. There was that frenzy in our hearts.
The house had to be just the way we wanted. Of course, “One” of the two partners will mostly have his or her way. For us it was his way 🙁
Here are some photos of our two bedroom apartment.
The house looks clean and spacious but, empty. And it was.
🙂 and 🙁
We weren’t parents then and believe me, there is a huge difference in your outlook, your requirements and your life.
These are some of the changes and you may see same things placed differently each time. It’s need based 🙂 Need for fun.
Here are some points of difference for those new parents to be.
Before we were parents and after we were parents:
Before: We had been in a rental 1BHK earlier. The second bedroom was an EXTRA one.
After: What second bedroom? Why didn’t we buy a 3 bedroom flat. Anyway, the loan payments are going to go on till eternity!
Before: Our second bedroom, proclaimed as a guest room was EMPTY. Only the beds on the floor and no furniture except, for the wardrobe and a work table.
After: I believe in just a few years we will be told that, “This is MY room.” and thereby ends the guest room funda!
Before: The wardrobes were empty. There seemed to be ample storage space. How much space will a child take up?
After: All the space in your house, as in your heart and in your life is taken up. Your new mantra will be, storage! storage and more storage!
Before: We need to have storage space for the future.
After: We NEED to have SPACE.
Before: Balcony was a space.
After: Balcony is an area where, “Store (and I was going to write, dump!) here, all of that which, has no specific place of it’s own”.
Before: The lighter shades of paint go well with our personalities. Mostly shades of white. They make the space look bigger and cleaner.
After: The child has brought so much color in our lives, we have to get some vibrance into our home too. Of course, the child helps you do that too, literally. And white? Tauba! They make the messes seen more clearly.
We have to get the house repainted and start finding some more storage solutions. It is due now as our little miss is all of three now and has her own choices. Some would say, “Drop the excess baggage” and yes, that is one way. It is important to declutter once in a while. Ahem! let’s talk about only the paint for now 😉
It was Asian paints for us four years back and it will be so, even this time around. Earlier we had visited Asian Paints colour spectra and we had chosen the following colors: Solitare 8500, Tropics – 8513, Spring folic -7787, Jungle cane -7793
